Artificial intelligence is the new frontier in the car wash industry, and operators are beginning to explore its potential to transform business practices, according to insights from the latest episode of the Better Car Washing Everywhere podcast.
Host Matt DeWolf and Meddy Ali, founder and CEO of Hello Wash, to broke down the myths and realities surrounding AI in both general terms and in car washes. "AI is here to help humans. AI is not here to replace humans,” Ali said.
DeWolf and Ali discussed the broad applications of AI technology, from enhancing customer service to optimizing inventory and maintenance. "There are a lot of places where AI could really come into the car wash space and where it has already landed," Ali said. Operators who are adapting and leveraging the new technology intentionally can significantly improve efficiency.
Ali said small operators can particularly benefit from AI in areas such as marketing and customer service. "There are a lot of tools that exist out there that can create marketing content for you," he said. “And you don’t have to have someone on staff full time or to have an agency to do that work if it doesn’t make sense for you.”
The conversation also touched upon the potential of AI in predictive maintenance. "You could really know when a motor is going to break down and be able to predict that," Ali said, emphasizing how predictive analytics can prevent costly downtime.
DeWolf raised an interesting point about the drive to reduce labor costs in express car wash models while maintaining high customer service standards. He emphasized the need for AI tools that support operational efficiency without sacrificing the customer experience.
As car washes continue to evolve, the integration of AI presents an exciting opportunity for operators to enhance their businesses. "AI could take the workload for customer service representatives down by 60 to 70%," Ali said.
Operators looking to stay competitive must adapt to these technological shifts. "AI is not going anywhere. Use it or you will be left behind," Ali said.
